What is it?
Connecting CERN technology and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
A3 is a Design Factory Melbourne initiative, which builds on earlier Challenge Based Innovation (CBI) pilots at IdeaSquare CERN, focused around using design innovation to develop outcomes that connect CERN technology with societal needs in a tangible way.

Team Squid
I worked in a team of 3 with mixed disciplines and backgrounds on a project involving the United Nations' sustainable development goal (SDG) #3 - Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
Phase 1
We were tasked with identifying potential problem spaces and opportunities that were relevant to SDG #3, conducting research and diving deep into these issues. Further to this, a selection of technologies from CERN and ATTRACT were available to explore and begin to form links between them and problem spaces.
IdeaSquare @ CERN
Part of phase 1 was a 2 week intensive taking place in IdeaSquare @ CERN, Switzerland. Together with 6 other teams from Design Factories all over the world, we were given tools for innovation, participated in tours and showcases of CERN's facilities, and guided through various activities for idea creation and development.
The 2 week intensive culminated in the selection of 2 problem spaces and an early idea/concept to address each of them. Feedback was provided by the experts at CERN and we would go on to take this onboard for the final presentation of phase 1.
We selected workplace burnout as our problem space and the design direction for the remainder of the project. Building on the idea we had at the end of the 2 week intensive, we developed Hygiea, a 3 part concept to combat workplace burnout with a focus on the future trend of "Work From Anywhere"
